HISTORY OF GRAY SCHOOL OF MUSIC

Portrait of Vicki Gray, Director/Owner, and Dr. Justin Gray, Assistant Director, Gray School of Music.Gray School of Music began in 1968 in an apartment in Richardson, Texas, as Vicki Gray began teaching piano to area students. In 1989 the piano studio moved to Preston Hollow where a large studio was custom built into her home.

In 1998, the studio moved to the present location in a commercial shopping center at Preston and Forest. Gray Piano Studios continued to grow from a facility with four teaching studios to a school with sixteen teaching studios and a recital hall. Gray School of Music now offers lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, and drums. Piano group classes are also offered for children as well as adults.

All of the faculty have obtained masters or doctorate degrees in piano, voice, percussion, violin, or guitar. All piano lessons are taught on grand pianos so that students can experience playing on the finest of instruments. Class piano lessons are being taught in larger studios on digital keyboards. Guitar, drum, and voice studios contain large mirrors for teaching as well as amplifiers, digital pianos, and equipment necessary for vocal, percussion, string, and guitar instruction.

Over the past four and a half decades, the business has grown to meet the needs of musical instruction in the community. Lessons are still taught the old-fashioned way with creativity in a warm, caring environment. Because the school has been in business for so long, many traditions of beautiful recitals, fun festivals, and performances have been incorporated into the teaching of students. We will strive to be in forty more years serving the musical needs of the community of North Dallas.
